How to make a word search
Choose a theme, add a short word list, and press Make my puzzle. Only words that were successfully placed appear below the puzzle.
Words and grid sizes
Enter up to 40 comma-separated or newline-separated entries, with a total of at most 4,000 characters. Each word needs 2–20 English A–Z letters. Spaces, straight or curly apostrophes, and hyphens are removed: ICE CREAM becomes ICECREAM. Accents, numbers, other punctuation and unsupported scripts are reported rather than silently changed. Duplicates are reported after normalization.
Choose a 10, 12, 15 or 20 square grid. Words longer than the selected grid are not placed. A packed grid can also run out of room. The not-placed list explains each omitted entry; a larger grid, fewer words or a new seed may help. No promise is made that every submitted word will fit.
Directions and repeatability
- Easy: left to right and top to bottom.
- Medium: easy directions plus both downward diagonals.
- Hard: all eight straight-line directions, including backwards.
The same word list in the same order, grid size, directions and seed reproduces the same puzzle in this version. New arrangement retains your words, title, size and directions while changing the seed. Editing an input hides the previous sheet until you generate again.
Print and answer key
Print puzzle opens your browser’s print dialog for the puzzle sheet. Print answer key prints only the key, with underlined answer letters and a row-and-column start/end list. Check the browser’s preview before printing; long lists can use extra pages. You can select Save as PDF if your browser supports it. The site does not itself export a PDF.
Words may cross. Background letters are random and can form extra words by chance; the listed answer locations are the intended placements. There is no content filtering, so review generated puzzles before sharing.
Your work stays in this tab
There is no save or upload feature. Reloading or closing the page loses your current inputs and puzzle. Keep a copy of the word list, settings and seed if you want to recreate it.
